Explore the finest and highest gravel passes in South Africa.
Our journey begins in The Karoo town of Prince Albert and heads towards the great passes of the Southern Drakensberg Mountains where legendary tracks like Bastervoedpad , Ongeluksnek and Otto Duplessis passe as well as Ben Macdui lie waiting to be conquered. We’ll visit the towns of Craddock, Wartrail, Rhodes and Queenstown and then south over the Katberg and Michell’s Passes to the ‘J R R Tolkien’ village of Hogsback. Before heading home we ride the World Heritage Baviaanskloof from east to west and then the final highlight of the tour over Swartberg Pass on route to Prince Albert and back to Cape Town.
This tour is open to all riders with gravel riding experience and suitable for both the big twin and thumper single cylinder bikes. For an idea of the level of difficulty it would worth watching the “Mountain Passes of South Africa” Youtube features of Bastervoedpad and Ben MacDui Passes. https://youtu.be/nGUOsK1QPM8 & https://youtu.be/1LZz6kwKPj4 .
The tour starts and finishes in Prince Albert but for those not wanting to trailer the 400km from Cape Town WildWood will be leisurely riding up on Wednesday 26 and returning on another scenic route on Tuesday 02. All welcome to tag along.
