Picture report of our recent Baviaanskloof World Heritage Site tour. All images capture by photographer Rudi Gremels on his trusty Pentax K1000 35 mm manual camera.
The shorter version of our Bavianskloof started and ended in the beautiful Karoo Village of Prince Albert.
The route headed over the majestic Swartberg Mountain Pass, a gravel pass worthy of being a destination in itself. Then through the Kamanasieberg and onto the town of Steytlerville and our first night on the rustic and remote Bucklands Game farm.
Day two we entered the Baviaanskloof National Park through the Groot River Kloof, a challenging two track with testing climbs and descents. There is good reason the reserve , a world heritage site is considered South Africa’s no 1 adventure biking destination. Three rough gravel mountain passes and many river crossings made for a special day’s riding to our overnight and the special hospitality at Zandvlakte Guest Farm.
Early morning we headed up the Rus en Vrede 4×4 track for the most spectacular views of the Winterberg Mountains before making our way back to Prince Albert on some awesome gravel roads and two-tracks. The tour ended with a memorable dinner at the iconic Swartberg Hotel.
