The Orange River Wild Ride takes place in the north west of South Africa. An epic desert adventure.
From the small copper mining hamlet of Okiep we headed to the west coast at Port Nolloth and then followed the Orange river from the Richtersveld National Park to Pofadder . The new 2023 route proved to be a winner with 4 days of breath taking riding. Truly remote canyons, rocky tracks, epic dunes and sandy tracks kept us on our toes throughout. Once we left the main track early on day 1 we didn’t encounter another vehicle or person on any of the trails until the final road back to Okiep on the 4th day.
4 Nights of great accommodation, good food and the best tasting cold beers at the end each days riding.
Every spring season in Namaqualand the normally barren desert landscapes explode into a mass of colour. And 2023 is turning out to be a bumper flower season after good winter rains. So good to see a bunch of seasoned old biker boys stop and take time out to appreciate the floral kaleidoscope.
This tour is strictly for experienced off-roaders and requires a good level of fitness and riding skills. And although one of the guys managed to man handle the big KTM890 Rally around the route I recommend bikes in the 690/701/500 class for this ride.
Watch this space for the next Orange River Wild Ride.
