Ride report: Kaokoland / Damaraland Wild – June 2024

The Kaokoland / Damaraland Wild is a extreme edition of our regular Kaokoland Odyssey tour that we only offer to select groups of off-road riders looking to challenge their biking skills over some enduro like terrain.

For 2024 we put an invited group of daredevils through their paces with some spicy routes that include the much feared Robbie’s pass gorge . Over and above the regular highlights like van Zyl’s Pass, Valley of Deslolation, Puros Canyons and Landcruiser Hill we added some long epic thick sandy river beds and rugged climbs.

Testament to the seven guys riding we had zero injuries and the tough as hell KTM’s and Husqvarna all came out as good as they went in.

This was Wildwood’s 50th tour in Kaokoland and unbelievably I have never grown tired of visiting this magical region. A unique combination of the most beautiful terrain, the local Namibian people, riding amongst unfenced wild animals, stunning lodges and camps and a sense of true remoteness continue to make each trip I do a new adventure.

For 2024 we were extremely lucky to have Josh Thorburn of @FlowSouthmedia who looks some epic drone pics of the tour.

And perhaps the secret ingredient is the the free spirits that sign up to ride this last unspoiled paradise in Africa.

We don’t schedule the ‘wild ride’ on a regular basis but happy to take groups on request every odd year.
